Syl's Blog

My purpose is to raise the personal development, and success bar for young people in Africa. Far too many youths have been misled by the traditional beliefs of what the path to success should look like. Go to school, get good grades, get a job, and work hard to climb the corporate ladder. That clearly isn't working out and It's time to change this narrative.

Syl is a young black woman who has learnt, since the age of 16, its sink or swim after losing her father in sudden circumstances. Her desire to rise, head and shoulders, above the parapet has provided robust academic, professional and entrepreneurial motivation and success. Starkly aware of the racial, economic, and social polarisation prevalent in the world at large, and Africa in particular, she is convinced that a blame list will not work in today's fast-paced world. Syl is determined not just to live, but to make a difference. She has an indefatigable drive to shed light on some of the key issues preventing young black people from living spiritually fulfilled, value-added, less materialistic and financially independent lives, inspired her to start the Young and Independent project. Syl demystifies entrepreneurship and impacts young people with free tutoring, networking, and mentoring via her blog, podcasts, YouTube videos, and social media posts. Her principal goal is to boost the continent's economic growth by impacting a change of perspective in every young African. Hers is a positive call of action, and she invites you to join the clan.
