Whilst I was growing up, I remember being asked what I wanted to become when I grew up. My response was always overwhelming “I want to become a rich woman when I grow up.”
There isn’t a single child who doesn’t look forward to growing up, becoming independent, and doing what they would love to do without necessarily seeking approval from anyone. Imagine being able to reach into the refrigerator and take out an ice cream bucket or just being able to meet and play with friends all day without parental control.
When Dr. Martin Luther King Jr fought for the emancipation of the black folk in the USA, his main goal was for the black race to be allowed the opportunity to make their own independent choices.
Which included, but wasn’t limited to parents choosing what school to send their kids to, what neighborhood to live in, and much more…
Steps to your independence :
Step 1: Spiritual Cleansing
Cleansing yourself spiritually is giving yourself the ability to free your mind and spirit from all your hurt and baggage. This usually has to do with forgiving your past to make room for the present and future).
Step 2: Self evaluation:
Perform a self evaluation of your current state of affairs (The Mind Stretch) Your Mind & Imagination = Abundance Or Lack!
Get clear on who you are, and what you want out of life (Self reflection, and Meditation).
Step 3: Set a vision
Set a Vision (where you want to be), and a mission ( how to achieve your vision) for your life.
Step 4: Write down your goals
Set a SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound), goal for yourself.Setting The Right Priorities Will Change Your Life!
Step 5: Embrace the right habits
Embrace habits that will be resourceful in achieving your goal(s), and shake off the useless ones.
Step 6: Make your critical success factors list(CSF)
Identify the people, skills, knowledge, resources, location, etc, that will lead you to your goal, and AVOID anything or anyone that may distract or derail you.
Step 7: Put in the work
Finally put in the WORK. Everyone wants to become independent but most people don’t like the discomfort or sacrifices that come with it. They would rather stick to their comfort zones, and expect things to fall into place, which unfortunately doesn’t work that way.
